Redbubble Holiday Card Design Challenge

A few weeks ago Redbubble hosted a series of design challenges and I decided to enter.  The brief for Week 1 was to create a vintage-inspired card or pattern artwork.  This was my submission:

I joined Redbubble about two years ago because I really wanted to create art and share it.  As my house is slowly being overrun with craft and art supplies, creating art digitally was a great way to express my creativity without needing lots of space and bulky supplies to do it.

I tend to be quite reticent when it comes to my art (which isn't a great strategy), so I've decided to produce a weekly Redbubble Round-Up where I'll be sharing what's new in the world of Merry Makewell Designs as well as highlighting other works that have caught my eye.

As I just uploaded a new sticker design to my shop, this week I'm looking at STICKERS.  Stickers come in up to four sizes ranging from around 100mm (about A7 size) up to around 30mm (about A4 size) depending on the design.  Buy any 4 and get 25% off or any 10 for 50% off.

First up is my new design "Choose Love Floral Heart".  This would be great on the cover of  a journal.

I love this "Autumnal Floral Book Stack" by Emma Mildred Riggle.  It would work for a scrapbook page or in a bullet journal or planner.

Another good scrapbook or planner option is this cute combination of vintage camera and old maps - "Travel".

You get four stickers in one with this cute set of flower doodles.  I  like that they're black and white so could be coloured if you wanted.

And finally, "Lotus Birds".  It features two of my favourite things - flowers and birds - and the colours are perfect.

I love paper. In fact I've always had a thing for stationery - pens, pencils, pencilcases, paper, gift wrap, you name it.  I haven't always kept in touch with my paper passion, though it occasionally showed up from time to time - the stationery cupboard at work was one of my favourite places. Then just before Christmas 2013 my passion for all things paper was unleashed with a vengeance!

The seeds were sown in late Summer when I stumbled upon (and promptly became hooked on) Create & Craft TV, which inspired the seemingly harmless decision to make my own Christmas cards.  Shopping for supplies started a chain reaction, which shows no sign of slowing down.  I was introduced to a whole new world of pretty papers, delightful embellishments, stamping, embossing, die cutting...  You get the picture.

Now, you should know that I've also got a thing for fabric, yarn & haberdashery.  It seems that I have a need to express my creativity by making things.  I delight in the whole process of taking a set of separate elements, and then combining them to create something completely new. It's marvellous!  So although I barely have time to spend on my existing crafty interests, I'm embracing this awakened interest in paper into my crafty fold, and as it's nice to have somewhere to document my journey I decided to set up this blog.

So here's to a new adventure. Let's see where it takes me!
