Geometric Watercolour Heart

14 days of hearts - no. 4

My ScanNCut is being tempremental so I've forgone any cutting for today's heart.  I've pulled out my Arteza metallic watercolour paints to create this pretty geometric heart.  The colours I used were Cactus Green, Sky Blue, Plum Purple and Watermelon Pink.

• Cut a heart from watercolour card.
• Cut lengths of masking tape into thin strips.
• Arrange the strips onto the watercolour card to create a geometric pattern
• Wet the entire surface of the heart.
• Drop colour into the sections allowing the colour to flow.  You might need to re-wet the surface if sections have dried.
• For more of a watercolour effect don't completely cover the sections with paint.  You can also add more than one colour to a section and let them blend together.
• Let the paint dry (use a heat tool to speed up the process).
• Carefully remove the tape.
• You could leave the heart at this point, but if you like, paint over the newly revealed white channels with gold paint.
• Let the paint dry.
• Place in a frame and hang as wall art.  It would also make a nice gift.

• Watercolour card - I used Crafter's Companion 300gsm watercolour card.
• Metallic watercolour paint - I used Arteza metallic watercolours but these are currently not available in the UK.  At time of writing this they are available in the USA.  Alternatively Altenew also do a metallic watercolour set. Also check Craftstash and Cass Art for alternatives.
• Masking tape

Redbubble Round-Up: Inspired by Spanish Tiles

So it's been a minute! After a longer-than-I-realised break I'm back for another Redbubble Round-Up.  I just uploaded a brand new design inspired by the intricate designs found on Spanish tiles, so this week's round-up features my new design and other Spanish tile inspired artwork.

So, here it is - "ST Entwined" by Merry Makewell Designs.  It's a gorgeous seamless pattern in teal and white that looks great on pretty much everything!  The photo shows the design on a floor pillow.

"Traditional Portuguese glazed tiles" is an actual reproduction of a traditional Portuguese tile pattern.  As the tiles form a repeating pattern it works really well with fabric items, like the tote bag.  I find this particular shade of blue very calming.

I like the use of two tones of blue, plus a tiny splash of colour in "Portuguese Tiles Quatrefoil Pattern".

From a tiny splash of colour to this lovely combination of pink, blue and yellow in "Old Floral Tiles":

And finally, I like the combination of coral, orange and turquoise "Spanish Tile Vivaciouse".  The majority of Spanish/Portuguese style tiles that I have seen have been in blue and white.  The vibrant pops of colour really lift the whole design.

Redbubble Round-Up: Geometric

So, it's time for another Redbubble round-up.  I'll be looking at GEOMETRIC designs on home decor products.

First up is my design "Octagonal".  There's something about this design that reminds me of a swimming pool and the acrylic block really helps to accentuate that effect.  I think that it would look doubly good on a windowsill or somewhere where it would catch the sun.

Next up, "Pink, Grey & Gold Geo" Throw Pillow by Blue Banana,  This style of design is very popular right now. I love the mixture of muted pinks and greys with gold.  It would definitely suit a clean, minimalist setting.

This "Kilim In Summer Shades..." design is in my favourite colour combination of pink and aqua/teal and the design is visually striking.  It's gorgeous!  It looks great on a duvet cover and could easily be teamed with pink or teal pillowcases for a more cohesive look.

I really like this style of geometric landscapes.  Despite being very simple, the colours and shapes and the interplay between the different layers give an interesting and playful result.  This "Native Lands" throw pillow would be great in a kid's room.

Finally, another one of my designs.  I love, love, love the "Geo Wheels - Red" surface pattern.   Here it is looking great on the tall mug.  It also comes in mint, white, mustard, lilac and teal.

Society Sunday

Time for another round-up of work that has caught my eye on the Society 6 website*.  First up "Midsummer Fires"by Shorsh.  I immediately fell for the glorious colour combination of pink and aqua and as I'm also a sucker for a beautiful sky, this one was a must.

"Gold Geometric Pattern III" by Avalon and Aiden.  This has an Art Deco feel - a style that I've recently discovered.  The combination of gold and white along with the diamond geometric pattern is simple and elegant.  I think it looks great on curtains.

As I mentioned last week, I'm loving seahorses at the moment and with the end of winter just about in sight I'm thinking ahead to my summer holidays and the beach.  I can see myself stretching out on this beach towel by Juliana RW.

Until I found one of these seeds on a walk through the park last year, I had no idea that they could be so beautiful.  "Maple" by Claudia Drossert captures the delicacy and gentle beauty of a maple seed.  I can see this print in a minimalist setting surrounded by cool tones.  I would have it in a space that I would be in when I wanted to feel peaceful and calm.

And finally, "Wild Bouquet" by Rachel Cave.  This just makes me happy.  The folk style works beautifully with the fresh colours and captures the essence of Spring.

I joined Society 6 almost a year ago.  I thought that it would be nice to share some of my favourite finds, so every Sunday I'll be doing a round-up of 6 pieces that have caught my eye - hence "Society Sunday".

First up - "Rainbow Geometric Pattern #4" by Juliana RW.  I love the geometric pattern, the gold lines and the mix of warm and cool in the colour palette.  It also lends itself well to a number of different products.

I love the whimsical artwork of Terry Fan.  "Whale Rider" is just one of many magical works.  I can imagine it in a nursery or a kid's bedroom.

Sticking with the nautical theme, I'm really loving seahorses at the moment.  Maybe they'll take the place of the flamingo or unicorn as the animal of 2018.  What better product to showcase them on, than a set of bath and hand towels.

Patterns and Textures shop is full of... you guessed, patterns and textures.  "Onyx - blue and orange" caught my eye. There's something mesmerising about the combination of the various shades of blue and the textured surface.

I was drawn to the softness and simplicity in "My Summer" by Claudia Drossert.  Much of her work features a similar muted palette with simple composition and a strong focal point.

From a muted colour palette, to a neon riot! The aptly named "Neon" by Cosmic Medium is bold, punchy and full of attitude.
